Uncanny Valley - Neural Filters
Uncanny Valley 👁👄👁 I had the joy of trying out the new Photoshop neural filters this past week. No doubt, popular AI apps have shown us the power of artificial intelligence and deep learning in the social space, so I’m really excited to see the next phase of this technology as used among creatives. According to the Oxford Dictionary, the phrase “Uncanny Valley” is used in reference to the phenomenon whereby a computer-generated figure or humanoid robot bearing a near-identical resemblance to a human arouses a sense of unease or revulsion in the person viewing it. I’m not gonna lie, features like changing gaze certainly approach the uncanny valley, but I also used a photo where I’m not looking at the camera lens head-on, which is known to affect how artificial intelligence interacts with images. Expect to see some more neural filter content in the near future — the intersection of art + tech is the future y’all🥴 #adoberesidency
