The earth orbits the sun at about 19 miles per second. The Sun, Earth, and entire Solar System orbit the center of the Milky Way at a blazing 140 miles per second. The Milky Way itself orbits our galaxy cluster, the Local Group, at a leisurely 25 miles per second. And the Local Group is hurtling towards the Virgo Cluster at an astonishing 375 miles per second. (Source: StarDate.org) Weβre zooming towards the vastness of space at incomprehensible speed. I like to remind myself to take a moment each day and feel that exhilaration in the stillness of my Earthly existence. π
