Photobomb
This sculpture was created in collaboration with Shoot Portraits Not People. SP/NP is an ongoing project by Jason Siegel, consisting of anatomically correct weapon sculpture built entirely from recycled camera equipment. 24 Photobombs were sent to 24 artists of different disciplines from around the country to customize however they’d like. No limitations. Jewelers, sculptors, painters, toy makers, designers, and fabricators alike. The final products are interactive and powerful installations that comment on the violent abuse of these artful machines, while cleverly exposing the shared vocabulary associated with photography and weaponry. With this piece, I meditated on the particular fears and anxieties felt by modern American women in a society plagued by armed violence. Various self-defense weapons hang from our keychains like charm decorations. We bedazzle bombs every day, turning this gruesome reality into something palatable — even beautiful.
